DESCRIPTION

Beginning your front end web development journey can sometimes be a little intimidating, especially if you’re trying to achieve the skills necessary to gain acceptance to a 6-month program. This 2-week course was created specifically to help change that and to jumpstart your career as a Web Developer.  It is geared to those that have very little experience with JavaScript, providing the foundation to apply your skills to various applications, as well as the knowledge to successfully enter programs such as the Galvanize  Web Development Immersive Program.

Why take this course?

New to programming or feeling misdirected by self-teaching? This program was developed for you! With a curriculum designed to give you the fundamental building blocks of programming with JavaScript, this workshop is intended to prepare you for admission to the Galvanize Web Development Immersive program and to provide you a foundation for your programming journey. You will learn the technical skills needed to succeed in the Galvanize Web Development admissions process, while also giving you the room and space to explore your interests in web development and programming.

NOTE: Successful completion of this workshop does not guarantee acceptance into the Galvanize Web Development Immersive program.

What You’ll Learn:

No matter your existing skill level, by the end of this workshop you will learn:

  • The syntax of JavaScript

  • How to structure the state of your programs

  • How to manipulate complex data structures

  • How to write functions for reusable code

  • Interacting with the web browser using jQuery

  • Basic HTML and CSS (for a deeper dive into interfaces, see our HTML & CSS Online Flex Course)

  • How to create dynamic, event-driven interfaces that you can use to build complex applications

Who Should Take this Class?

This workshop is for anyone interested in learning to understand how to program interactive websites using JavaScript. Typically, we find there are three categories of students: hobbyists, future web designers, and future web development immersive students.
